Book Worm and Christmas Reflections

With our trip to Missouri this week to visit David's family, I have had a lot of time to catch up on some reading! The drive is about seven hours one way plus I had one day of alone time while David and his dad bonded over putting out corn for the deer! I have a bad habit of reading multiple books at once but my new resolution is not to start a book while I am currently involved in another. I digress. Over the trip I finished The Secret Life of Bees and the first Sookie Stackhouse book Dead until Dark. I absolutely adored both books. Bees was an emotional book for me since I am now a mother. Dead is a completely different type of read but I am itching to dive into the second novel. While in small town Missouri, I went to Wal Mart to purchase the next Sookie book but they did not have it. I ran across The Reader which has been made into a movie that is now in theatres starring Kate Winslet. It was a short book. I read the first half on the way home and just finised the second half today. It is hard to describe the book. It is one that leaves you with such a sad feeling at the end. There is a twist in the plot that, when it happens, seems so obvious but I didn't see it coming. Today, my book club book came in too. Since my little bubby is so tuckered out from our long trip, I might actually have time to begin reading it tonight too. (Rockin New Years, huh?!) I am so into reading right now. I would rather read than watch TV. I know this is greatly due to book club.
I should also add some details about Camden's first Christmas! It was so fantastic to have him here for Christmas. The night before Christmas Eve we had our Bestie party here at the house. Eight kids and five adults! Whew! All of the babies got a taggie blanket from Claire. The kids had an "age partner" (meaning the two children who were closest in age) to buy gifts for. Camden's partner is Wyatt since they are only about two weeks apart. Camden got a crinkle book and a toy from Wyatt. The besties just decided to play Dirty Santa which was very hard with 8 kids around! Picture frames were the gift of choice for the night. LOL! We had a great time but decided that next year we will have the kids exchange gifts then have their Daddies pick them up so we can have our friend time. Christmas Eve was very busy! That morning my mom's family came to our house for breakfast. MMMM...That is my favorite meal of the holiday season. We chatted and exchanged gifts and had a great time. That evening, David's mom, step-dad, sister, her fiance, his grandmother and her boyfriend came over to exchange gifts. Of course, Camden got lots of toys and a high chair! Christmas morning came and Santa was very good to Camden! He got a VSmile Baby, a Baby Einstein DVD, a Baby Einstein toy, a Laugh and Learn tool box, a football, and tons of clothes. Then we headed to my moms. David and I got a new video camera to film Camden's shenanigans that are sure to come very soon. Camden got a walker and tons of toys. The day after Christmas we headed north to David's dads house. Camden got money, toys, ornaments, and clothes. He has waaaay too much stuff but it will be a while until his birthday so he will have plenty to keep him busy until then. We are so grateful to have so many people who care for him. He is a very lucky boy! I hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas like we did.
Our New Years will be quiet. David is not feeling well and I'm clining to Camden until Monday since I start back to work, so I refuse to go anywhere he can't go, and I don't want to get him out in the cold since he has already been exposed to flu while in Missouri. I am going to miss 2008. It was, by far, the best year of my life. All of the positive experiences I have had this year have made me a better person. It was the year my child was born; the year that I established strong friendships and renewed old ones; the year that my husband and I continued to love each other unconditionally; and the year that my family was able to exhale and welcome a new member. I don't know how 2009 can top 2008, but I would love to see it try!

#38- Eat at Ketchup

I was browsing my list and I forgot that I ate at Ketchup this week! Lora and I went to Huntsville Tuesday to scope out some places and information on having our class reunion next year. We were checking out the banquet room at the Westin at Bridge Street so we decided to have lunch at Ketchup since neither of us had eaten there before. I suppose the best part was that we got lunch prices ;) Strangely enough, I did not get anything that required ketchup! I did have their grilled chicken nachos which was more of a Mexican dish, but that's how I roll. They were topped with yummy homemade guacamole. Yum-o! Lora had the sloppy joe which she said tasted just like the ones from a can. Strangely enough, she was pleased with that! She did have french fries and I had to sample one. They were sprinkled with Parmesan cheese which was different but very tasty. I did like the restaurant but if I'm at Bridge Street I would much rather eat at P.F. Changs or Cantina Laredo. So the guacamole at Cantina and Ketchup has me on this kick, and I purchased the ingredients to make my own guac! Shocker, I know. I tried it tonight and it was actually ok for a first timer. I think my avocados could have been a little more ripe. I've watched Rachael Ray cut avocados and remove the seed 1,000 times, but I couldn't pull it off quite like her. I managed to spoon out enough avocado to make the guac but not before stabbing my hand in the process. Maybe I will practice some more and I'll crave my own guacamole!

December Book Club

We had our December meeting last night and it, as usual, was super fun! We met at Shannon's mom's house and Shannon assigned us the book Blue Christmas by Mary Kay Andrews. I loved the fact that we were reading a Christmas book and this one was too cute! Southern fiction is my absolute favorite. I am proud of being from the South and all the humor that goes along with it. I adore the fact that I always know someone who behaves the exact same way as each character in the book. I read this book in a total of about three hours. It was an easy, fun read. We also decided to play Dirty Santa and each person brought a book. I thought this was such a fun idea. The best part was each person's dramatic reading of the book blurb with Amelia's "smart" glasses. Too funny. I think we may play again soon even before next Christmas. I am glad we started this book club. I have been reading so much more, and I find myself searching Amazon.com relentlessly trying to find new books to order. Next month we are going to read The Quickie by James Patterson. I can't wait to start that one! I hope I can keep up with my reading now that I am going back to work and school in just a couple of weeks.

My Baby is 10 Weeks Old

Last Saturday Camden turned 10 weeks old. It is so hard to believe. I just wanted to share this pic that I took of him that day. I take a picture of him every Saturday when he turns another week older. I had reminded myself all day long to do it but I forgot until he got into the bed that night. I always take about 10 pictures at a time. He was almost asleep for the first one, but after I flashed the camera he woke up and began to smile for the others. He loves having his picture made!

Finally! Something to say :)

I have not blogged in about three weeks! Not that I haven't had the time, because, trust me, I have! I just have not had anything to blog about. My little boy was diagnosed with RSV on his two month birthday so we have been cooped up in the house since December 4th. I had honestly have only left the house to go to the doctor and to the store until I got to have a little outing last week with Jaime and Melanie. We had dinner last Tuesday at Longhorn. We followed that with a trip to the Hob where I had to do some Christmas shopping. Jaime and Melanie also made some purchases (shocker) including an "It's a Boy" ornament for the Emerson Christmas tree! (I'm so stoked about meeting Noah by the way) Then we went to Babies R Us to scope out some things for Noah. We had such a good time. I have missed those gals since I've been on leave. I cannot wait to get back to work! I admire SAHM's...I couldn't do it forever. I love my little man to the pit of my core, but I'm not made to stay at home. The evening was superb until I decided to call the hubby and check on him and the babe. No answer on the house or cell phone. I knew they had to be at home because Camden was sick and couldn't get out. I called about fifty-eleven times and still no answer! I was so scared. I knew in the back of my mind that they had fallen asleep and David just wasn't hearing the phone. But I thought, if he can't hear the phone, can he hear Camden if he is crying??!! UGH! Finally, I called my mom to get her to go over there. She decided to call first, and luckily, David answered the phone for her. I could have murdered him. That ruined my whole night!

Well, the holidays are officially here! I cannot wait to attend all the gatherings. I love giving gifts and I hope I got everyone something they will love. My first party will be this Friday night for Book Club. It's a Christmas extravaganza! We had to read a Christmas book titled "Blue Christmas." It was super funny and exceptionally easy to read. We are also going to play Dirty Santa and everyone is bringing a book. I hope amazon delivers mine in time!

The next couple of weeks are going to be so hectic. After all the Christmas hooplah we will be leaving to visit David's family in Missouri. When I come back, I'll have approximately six days before returning to work. It will definitely be bitter sweet. I'm lucky that my sister will be keeping Camden. I'm hoping that will make going back to work much easier. Well, I've blogged everyone's leg off so I'll stop for today and try not to wait three weeks before blogging again!

I Heart Used (but new to me!) Things

Still being a bad blogger but mostly because my life is kinda boring right now! I have had some interesting developments over the past couple of days. First of all, I have been dying for a Blackberry phone for as long as I can remember knowing about Blackberrys. I don't really care about all of the fancy things it does that you have to subscribe to. I just like the keypad for texting and I hate flip phones. Several factors have kept me from getting one but recently my husband found a great deal on ebay for one that was like new so he bought it for me! It came in today and I love it. You would never know it was used. Funny story about the delivery...the mail lady and her lazy tail placed the box in front of the garage door instead of on the front porch. I had no idea it was there so I backed out of the garage and ran over the box!! Luckily it was in a very large box, and I just pushed it instead of running over it completely. The phone was not harmed, but the postmaster will be getting a phone call about the incident! The second used-but-new-to-me item we bought last night was a tanning bed! I have wanted one for ages and we found a very inexpensive one on Craigslist. It is an older model but I'm still very excited about having it. I think this will save us lots of money on tanning visits in the future.

I have a lot of events happening in the next few days. First of all, tomorrow I have to go pick up Camden's proofs from his first professional photographer's visit. I am so excited! He was awake for almost all the pics. He did pitch royal fits when we changed his clothes and such but I think the photographer got some great shots. Secondly, the Twilight movie is coming out Friday! Lora, Shannon, Casey, and I have tickets to see the midnight show in Huntsville tomorrow night! I have never been to a midnight movie, and I am super excited. I'm so lucky that my hubby doesn't mind (even though he has to work the next day) to get up with Camden. (He is only getting up once a night now, so it's not a huge sacrifice!) I've been so excited about this movie! Lastly, we have Book Club Friday night. I so look forward to Book Club. This month we read "The Pact" by Jodi Picoult and I have tons to say about it. Lots of things about this book caught my attention. It was a really good book. I can't wait to see what Shannon pics out for our December meet.

New Recipe

Since I am playing Stay-at-Home-Mom for the time being, I have been attempting to cook most nights for me and my hubby. While I was homebound, my aunt made Chicken Fajita Soup for us and we both loved it. So last night I decided to try it out. It turned out great if I do say so myself! I did use another can of Rotel instead of the can of green chiles it calls for. David took the leftover to work and it was a hit! Here is the recipe just in case someone wants to try it out. It is super simple or else I couldn't have done it! (Two blogs in one day...I'm a bad mamma jamma!)

Chicken Fajita Soup

2 Chicken Breasts boiled and shredded
1 can of corn- drained
1 can pintos- drained
1 can chicken broth
1 can Rotel
1 can chopped green chiles
1 pound Velveeta

Mix together, add cheese, when cheese is melted it is ready to serve!

#43-Eat at 10 New Restaurants

Ok so I was browsing through my list and realized I ate at a new restaurant and forgot to check it off my list! We went to Cantina Loredo at Bridge Street for Jaime's birthday on the 25th of October. Everyone always raves about the guacamole that is made right at your table. I ordered it, but they didn't even make it there! I was disappointed, but it was still tasty. A little too much lime for my liking, but I still hogged it down. My meal was so good. I got the grilled chicken soft tacos. My husband got the steak and chicken fajitas, and of course, I had to sample them. They were awesome too! The best part of the restaurant was the company ;) I had fun catching up with Melanie, but I hated that Jaime, Christy, and Amelia were so far away! And as usual, David and Bran had a great time talking about hunting and whatever else they always talk about. They are two of a kind.

Camden is one month old today!

I've been such a bad blogger but Camden has this uncanny sense of when I put the computer in my lap...it's like a crying magnet for him! Honestly, I still cannot believe how God has blessed me with this little boy. I can't even remember what life was like before he got here. I can't believe it's been a month already. He is still sleeping a lot during the day. His days and nights are not completely mixed up, but he definitely eats more often at night, and sleeps for longer periods and eats less during the day. I'm planning to start him on cereal (regardless of what his doc says!) before I go back to work in January. He will be right at 3 months so I guess that's not too early. It's imperative that he sleeps well then. Right now, it doesn't matter too much. Not only is today his one month birthday, he also got to go to the election polls for the first time today! I promised my grandmother I would let him wear his "American Baby" bib today.
In other news, I registered for classes at UNA yesterday. I'm taking two classes since one of them is being taught by an easy teacher. I'm ready to get finished so I'm trying to take as much as possible while he is still little. I don't want to drag things out until he is two and running circles around me while I'm attempting to write a paper! I'm excited about getting back into things. I know once I start making that drive to UNA twice a week and writing papers all the time, I will miss this break I've had. That's just how I am!
I'm also very excited about book club this month. I started reading the book and t's pretty sad so far but it is good. I can't wait to see my book club girls. I know we will have a blast like last time.
One last thing, we took my niece and nephew to see High School Musical 3 Sunday (also Cam's first trip to the movies. He slept the whole time!) The movie was good, but the best part for me was the Twilight trailer shown before the movie! OMG! I'm so excited to see this movie. There have been several movies this year that I have felt like I HAD to see it the DAY it came out (Sex and the City and Mamma Mia being the other two) and this movie is no exception. I hope it lives up to my expectations!
Oh and Amelia, you motivated me without even knowing it! You are doing so well keeping up with blogging and you have a newborn and a two year old. Kudos to you! I have no excuses anymore!!!!

New Mommy Thoughts!

Well, since my last blog my little man Camden Gage was born. He arrived on October 4th weighing in at 6 lbs and 14 oz. He has definitely changed my life...but I knew he would! He is so precious. He sleeps pretty well for a newborn too. I am adjusting to waking up every 3-4 hours. It is a challenge, but he is worth every moment. Even when I am fighting falling asleep at 4 a.m. while giving him his bottle, he is worth it! LOL I'm very excited because I FINALLY get to have my baby shower tomorrow. It's pretty neat that Camden will get to be at the shower. Most babies don't get to do that! We planned the shower spur of the moment, so I hope we have a good turnout. As we speak, my poor husband flubbed a shower errand! He was delivering the diaper cake to my cousin's house. The bottom fell out of the cake and he had to call Debra to come and put it back together. Poor thing! I'll have to give him extra kisses when he gets home. I bet he's embarassed, bless him! Also tomorrow Camden will attend his first family Bama party! He's going to be all decked out in his Roll Tide gear. They played the day he was born and won so Camden has a winning record so far. Let's hope that continues tomorrow :) I'll post lots of shower and game day pics! I'm so glad that he is old enough to get out and about. I've been cooped up in this house since September 4th. It's time to get out so I have things to blog about!!!

Pregnancy Update

Well, there is not much to tell on the pregnancy front. From what I understand, we are waiting on some dilation. Dr. Shannon said that once I started dilating we could talk about inducing. I go back tomorrow, so hopefully we will have made some progress. Right now it is just super frustrating going to the doctor twice a week. Each time we go I have to sit through the non stress test which takes a good 30 minutes. They always have to take this little wand and jolt the baby a little bit to get his heartrate up because he is usually asleep. He does not like this! He always jumps really big one time and sometimes it makes him get the hiccups! All of his test results have been great, and I'm so thankful for that. As much of a hurry as I am in for him to get here, I realize that it is a good thing that they have not already done a c-section. It means he is healthy, and I couldn't ask for more! Hopefully after the visit tomorrow we will have something to tell.

My Happy Things

About a month ago Christy and Amelia made a list of their Happy Things. I wanted to follow suit but haven't really had the time until now, so here are my Happy Things in no particular order!

  • The theatre- I love going to the theatre to watch plays, musicals, ballets, etc. I've only had the opportunity to see a professional play once and that was Mamma Mia in London. I've seen several plays in Huntsville that were very well done, and I even enjoy Calhoun's theatre. I appreciate the work that goes into the productions, and I always leave feeling so enlightened and almost a little jealous because I would love to be a part of that life.

  • Movie theatre popcorn and coke-It's better than the movie itself. 'Nuff said!

  • A clean house- I love coming home from work after my house has been cleaned. It's worth every penny.

  • Grey's Anatomy- My mom and I play catch-up right now on the old episodes. We have mini-marathons where we will watch four or five episodes at a time. New episodes are even better!

  • School spirit- I think that is something I missed out on in high school at Clements but I see the kids there today and I think it is alive and well and that makes me proud for them.

  • Alabama Football- Roll Freakin Tide!! I'm ready for a great season. The slump has gone on long enough.

  • Friends- I absolutely love spending time with my friends! I have the greatest friends ever. I have different friends for different places and events in my life. I love when those friends meet and mesh well together. I think as a teenager I did not understand the importance of friends. It is something that I have learned as an adult, and I know the friends that I have made or reestablished as an adult are the ones I will keep for life.
  • Scrapbook supplies- I love the supplies and shopping for them almost more than I like the actual act of putting the pages together! hehe
  • The Hubby- I heart him! We have just been through so much together. I can't imagine my life without him. No one could ever take his place. He is a total goofball, but he's mine! He is such a good man. He is a hard worker. He is a good friend. He has made a good life for us. He would do anything for anyone. He loves to help people. He is responsible. And he is going to be an awesome father. I admire him so much. He is everything I want to be.

#58 Read 10 New Books

I have already commented on one of the two new books I have read, but the other book was title Bunny Tales by Izabella St. James. I do not want to comment too much on this book because it is our book club assignment for this month and several members of the club also blog on this site. It was an interesting read. Being a fan of "The Girls Next Door," I was anxious to find out what goes on when the camera is not rolling. To say the least, I will never see the show in the same way. I always knew Hef was a dirty old man, but now, I kind of pity him in a way. From the book, he appears to be insecure, and it's sad that he has felt the need to try to buy these ladies into his life. That's all I will say for now. Oh, the biggest downside to the book is the numerous typos and grammatical errors. Ms. St. James should get a refund from the editors.

Twilight Book One

Ok, so I officially have no life now since I am not working and I can't leave the house much. In the week that I have been off, I did complete the first Stephanie Meyer book Twilight and I have begun the second book New Moon. Let me share my thoughts about the first book...If you haven't read the first book and are planning to, please do not read this because it might spoil some facts for you. I already feel like I know too much about the future of Bella/Edward/Jacob. So, I was totally shocked that the climax of the book included an outside villan. I never saw it coming. I just knew that the climax would consist of Edward biting and turning Bella into a vampire. I actually WANTED this to happen! LOL! I caught myself thinking, "Just bite her! Do it!" I was also surprised at the speed of the novel. It started slowly and did not get truly exciting until the last several chapters. It was in these last few chapters that I finally fell in love with Edward :) I kept wondering what all the hype was. My goal is to get skinny enough where my husband can pick me up and tote me around everywhere the same way Edward does Bella. Am I the only one who notices how he carries her everywhere? hehe
So, my introductory thoughts on New Moon...I am about 200 pages in and I miss Edward. I know he's coming back but I'm getting impatient. I am not fond of Jacob and his pony-tail. UGH! I can't help but notice the frequent mentioning of the black bear. I know this has to be symbolic and will possibly take part in the climax of the book. Just a shot in the dark, but I can't help but think that Edward may be the black bear! I could be totally off. I'm also very intrigued about the group in La Push that Jacob's friends are being led into. Most of all, I'm ready for Edward and his shiny skin to come back!

Bed Rest

I know you all know by now that I have officially been put to bed (or in my case recliner) for the remainder of my pregnancy. I am visiting the doctor twice a week now to have my blood pressure monitored to make sure toxemia doesn't sneak up on me. I'm not sure how long they will let me stay pregnant. The doctor said that they want me to stick it out as long as possible. He warned me that they will push me as far as I can go, and that I may possibly get sick from it but the baby needs to stay inside of me as long as it is safe for him to be there. Doesn't that sound fabulous? I know they will do what is best for the baby and that's all that matters.
I'm also not allowed to have my baby showers :( This is very disappointing. I couldn't believe when he told me that, but we will have them when Camden arrives, and he will just have to tag along!
I'll admit that I am somewhat relieved to be off work. It was beginning to be extremely stressful and tiring, and I do not feel that I was doing that great of a job anyway. Hopefully, when they get a replacement it will be someone with more energy, and when I go back in January, I want to be much better than the beginning of this year. My heart really was in the right place, but my body just could not keep up with the work. I am upset that there is no permanent replacement right now. It worries me that Owens will be stressed trying to find a replacement. So now I have no excuse to blog! Except maybe that my life will be so extremely boring, I will have nothing to say. HA!

Too Blank to Blog!

I cannot believe it has been so long since I blogged! I was so into it this summer, but I didn't have any responsibilities holding me back. So much has happened since I last blogged, I hope I can remember it all.
First of all, Camden's room is complete as of yesterday! YAY! I love being in there. I just want him to hurry and get here to share it with me. I can't wait to share the big comfy chair with him I just imagine all the time we will spend there together, alone during his feedings. I just can't wait. I can't even describe the anxiousness I'm feeling right now.
Secondly, I found out that one of my dearest friends is expecting her first baby! I am so proud for Jaime and Brandon. They are such good people and they deserve nothing but the best in life. I pray for them and their little one every day. I can't wait to meet Baby E. I'm predicting a girl, for the record! ha!
My pregnancy updates are not so splendid. Turns out that my blood pressure is a little higher than they would like, so I'm visiting the doctor every week now. I guess the upside of this is that they will not let me go over my due date and they might let me go a little earlier. I just want a healthy baby. As long as he's going to be ok, I'm ready for him to come.
I'm longing for my maternity leave from school. I just do not have the energy to discipline my students like they need. They know I do not have the energy and they take advantage of that. I'm just so tired before the day even starts. I hope to be on top of my game when I go back in January. Ha! We'll see.
We took a family vacay for Labor Day weekend. It's a tradition for us to go to Tim's Ford Lake with my mom, dad, sister and her family. We had a great time. I was too tired to do the usual hikes and outings, but my sister and I caught up on our tabloids while we stayed piled up in the cabin. We also got to watch a kick-ass Alabama game! ROLL TIDE! I love football season, and I can't wait til the game next week.
UGH! I know there is more, but my back is killing me sitting at this computer. I promise to try to blog this weekend. My dad and step-mother in law are coming down this weekend. I have a family shower Sunday. I'll take pics of my loot and Camden's finished nursery. Toodles!!

Saturday, August 23, 2008

I had such a busy week! Work is work to say the least. Nothing too interesting happened. I did get my 5th period class somewhat civilized, but they still have some barbarisms that need to be worked out. That's next week's mission. Camden has so many updates for this week! Monday we went to get our 4D ultrasound. He did cooperate too much but we still got a peek at his handsome little face. He definitely has his daddy's chubby cheeks and pouty lips! That was definitely the highlight of my week. Who says Monday's are bad?!

Tuesday we went to get his furniture from The Baby's Room in Florence. Of course, we came home and put it together, arranged it, and put his bedding on. This is just a sneak-peek at the nursery. We are in no way finished but inquiring minds want to see what's going on!

Thursday I had to go back to the doctor. My blood pressure was a tad high so I have to go back next week to check it again. That's a little scary, but it seems that this late in the pregnancy things like that start to happen. I mean, I did gain another 4 lbs and doesn't weight make your bp go up?! Mom and I watched some Grey's Thursday night. We finished the gut-wrenching Season 2. I thought I was going to vomit, cry, and pass out all at the same time when Denny died. I mean, I knew he was going to die, but when Izzie crawled into his bed and Alex had to pick her up and get her out...ugh! It killed my soul.

Last night we had our first book club meeting. I was so excited about it and still am! I can't wait to get my book 0rdered and start reading! I also can't wait for our groups to mesh so I don't feel stuck in the middle again! LOL! I know that will happen very soon :) The hard part is going to be refraining from talking about the book to Jaime, Melanie, and Lora whom I talk to every day. Lora and I decided we probably wouldn't even read the book until closer to time for the meeting so we don't talk about it or forget things. Happy Reading to All!!!

Random Thoughts

Well, I survived my first whole week of school but not without its aches and pains! Swelling, fatigue, body cramps, and weight gain (i'm sure) have all increased, but I'm hoping this is just a phase and that my body will get back into the swing of working again. If not, it's going to be a terribly long 8 weeks. Things are going pretty well with the exception of one little bump in the road I like to refer to as 5th period. 5th period makes me want to die twice. This is one of the worst mix of kids I have ever had in my life! I wrote up my first little darling today, and I already have scheduled who I will write up on Monday. Oh, I know that sounds awful and politically incorrect and such, but I have a strategy that hopefully will pan out. Besides 5th period, my day is nice. I have good numbers. For the first time I feel like the majority of the students in my advanced class are truly advanced. The ones who are not are great kids so they are excused! The 8th graders are not as sharp as I would like for them to be, but my job is to teach, and I am really having to challenge myself to dig deep and find a way to get the concepts through to them. It takes a little longer, and I may not finish everything that the state would like for me to do, BUT I am convinced that I have to try my best to teach the concepts and give the students the opportunity to master them and not just move on for the sake of moving.
In other non-school related news, Camden's furniture has arrived with the exception of one (and the most important, I might add) piece that is still THREE WEEKS OUT. But I'm not freaking out...yet! We are going to pick up the pieces that are in on Tuesday and the final piece will be delivered to our home when it arrives. This past Tuesday night I ordered some of the nursery accessories with the money we recieved at the Missouri baby shower. It all came in today! I was super excited, so David and I went to town to get the supplies to hang the curtain panels and valance. It looks so good. I can't wait for the furniture to get in so we can finally post pics of the finished nursery.
Speaking of baby, our 4D ultrasound is Monday at 3:00. I can't wait to get the first glimpse of my baby boy's face. I'm eager to see how big he is. Sometimes it feels like he weigh's about 10 lbs. already. His daddy is just stupid excited about it all! He is so cute. He almost refuses to go to sleep until he feels Camden move. I think Camden is on to the game because when he kicks hard, we both laugh and talk to him. The more we laugh, the harder he moves. It's the greatest thing ever to have those moments with David. I can't imagine being on this journey with anyone but him. I can't wait for our little man to join us in our travels.
Oh and one last thought...book club meets in exactly one week! I'm so excited to get this party started!

New Haircut and Skills!

I have a new haircut, and I like it! I got a wild hair on Friday to cut it so Saturday I had it cut. I do that sometimes. It's pretty short. I felt the need to simplify my morning routine. Right now I value my sleep so much and when my little man comes along, I will not have tons of time to primp in the mornings before work, so it just made sense to make the cut! And all of the "Shear Genius" could have something to do with the need for a change. Pictures will come soon if I can make one that I like! I have been watching a lot of the Olympics this weekend. I like watching the swimming. Since I technically do not know how to swim, it blows my mind that people can swim that quickly. Last night I watched a little of the men's gymnastics even though hubby felt the need to degrade them for being "wimps." I pointed out to him that those wimps could probably beat the crap out of him with one of their massive thighs. (I'm great for his ego, I know!) Then I told him I was going to enroll Camden in gymnastics when he got big enough. I try to get a rise out of him whenever possible! Tonight, I'm watching some of the ladies gymnastics. I am so impressed with all of these athletes, but the gymnast are especially fascinating to me. I have always regretted that I am not more talented. I have made a vow to take up golfing after Camden is born. This is something that my husband really enjoys. I know it's not physically demanding but it requires a lot of skill. David really wants Camden to learn as well. I think it will be a great thing for us to do as a family, and I am SO excited about it. I have already been practicing my swing and stance. David is very patient even though I am not. I do not like not knowing how to do something, and I am very hard on myself. I want to do it perfectly right away! He is very good at praising and encouraging me. I don't know if he's just being nice, but I think I might actually be good at it with some practice. I can't wait to hit the real course!

Slacker!!

I cannot believe I haven't blogged since Monday. I can tell that this is going to be hard to keep up during the school year and even more difficult when my little man arrives. BUT reflecting back to my 101 list, the goal was to blog three times a week, so hopefully I will be able to stick with that. So, I guess I should give updates on my new school year. I have been so scattered because of the randomness of my schedule. I only have three different classes but they are all mixed in together. I had to tape a copy of my schedule to my podium so I would know who was coming to class next! I have first period planning which I will LOVE when we stop having homeroom which cuts my time short. My classes have been very good so far with the exception of the "heart" class known as 5th period. I swear 8th graders behave better than 9th graders and it's quite disgusting! My 5th period consists of about 26 students and that is my biggest class of the day which is not bad at all. The class number fluctuated during the first couple of days and got up to 30 at one point. Plus, I have a special ed. aide and a hearing impaired aide in the room so that makes things extremely crowded! I have already informed that class that they will be "workers" which means I will have to keep them busy the entire 50 minutes of class. FUN! Other than that, I think things will be great. I love my new hall! I love seeing my girls after every class and chatting with them. I'm away from my negative neighbor. I have gained another nuisance but I can handle her. I am looking forward to a great school year!!

Summarizing Skills

Well, I haven't blogged for a bit so I thought I would just summarize what has been going on the past few days. Saturday was such a good day! I took my niece to get a manicure and pedicure and she had the best time! She loved being pampered and trying something new. Saturday we also went to Lexi's birthday party and to the school to do some more work there. Sunday was a pleasant day. My grandmother came to my mom's for lunch after church, and we got to spend some time together talking and munching on mom's taco salad. Mom also sewed my curtains for my classroom while we chatted. My sister and her family did not get to come over like they normally do. I was glad because it gave me some time to chat with the matriarchs (nice word, huh?!) about my fears and such about Camden's arrival. My mom and grandmother are the best medicine for me when it comes to things like that. They have been through it all...especially my grandmother. She had five kids and a deadbeat husband. She worked their entire lives and supported every single one of them. She is such an example to me. It is very important to me that I be a wife, mother, and have a career at the same time. That is what I have always wanted. Talking to her shows me that I can do that. I can have it all!! I am so lucky to have strong women to look up to and to talk with about these things. And of course, after MeMaw went home, Mom and I watched a few episodes of Grey's. Sunday evening pretty much sucked. My hormones are really starting to get the best of me. I wound up arguing with my husband about something terribly silly (on his part, of course!) and it ruined my entire evening. Before I got pregnant, I didn't care if my husband scolded me about something. Big whoop...he'll get over it! But now, it just kills my joy for him to get mad at me. All is well now, as usual. Our tiffs never last too long. I suppose after seven years of marriage I have come to realize that it's ok to argue. It's ok to let someone know when you are unhappy, hurt, or frustrated. If you don't, those feelings will just pile up and turn into resentment and lead to even bigger problems. So that brings me to today, Monday, a.k.a. the beginning of the first full week of work. Lemme tell you...it's getting to me already! Emotionally, I'm stressed about pulling everything together and about my new students I will have. Physically, my body is already giving up on me. I have been super lazy this summer and now my preggo body is resisting the work. Mentally, I'm just grouchy! And it doesn't help when someone who does not need naming keeps trying to get into the circle. I hope I adjust soon. I hope this is not a foreshadowing of what the next 1o weeks will be like. If so, I may get kicked out of the "cool hall" before the hot glue dries on my posters!

The Morning After Blog

OK, so I didn't blog last night. Bite me ;) I had a very long day yesterday and a long evening ahead of me today. Yesterday was our first official day back to work, and it hit me like a ton of bricks. We started the morning off with a meeting featuring our school system superintendent. He had a very positive message about starting over, and being refreshed and positive about our profession. We all needed to hear this message! I was still getting sleepy because he kept turning off the lights and presenting slide shows. Camden was none too happy about working. He kicked me through the entire meeting as to say, "Mom, why are we awake at 9:00? Mom, who is that man talking? Mom, you need to pee. Why don't you just get up in the middle of the meeting and pee? MOM! You have heartburn! Just get up and get your Tums!" (In case you can't tell, sleepiness was not my only issue during the meeting) After the meeting, we had about an hour to work in our rooms before lunch. Couldn't even tell you what I got accomplished there besides a trip to the bathroom and the eating of the Tums. I had lunch with James and Melly, of course, along with our fellow English departmenters, McGee, the honorary English man, and our new science teacher Mrs. Arnold. We ate at Casa Blanca, and it was actually very pleasant. We caught up on our summer adventures. One of the teachers even went to Key West and saw Ernest Hemingway's home and his six-toed cats! Very exciting English Teacher material. After lunch, we worked back in our rooms. Not much accomplished all day but it wore me out just having to be there! After work, my dad brought my niece and nephew to my house. I took them to our cousin's b-day party. Children should not be born in August. Even with a water slide party, the heat was too much for the adults...especially this seven month pregnant adult! My nephew went to spend the night with my mom and dad and Alana came home with me and David for the night. Today, I'm taking Alana to get a manicure and pedicure for her birthday. It was in back in May but she was playing softball and we were afraid it would go to waste, so we decided to do it for back to school. She is so excited...not excited enough to get up before 10 am though! After nails, we have another outside-waterslide party to go to. Then it's back to school where David will help me hang the rest of the things in my room. I'll try to blog tonight with pics from the nail salon, bday party, and classroom. I have a busy afternoon ahead....Toodles!

It's the End of Summer as We Know It!

Well, tomorrow is the big day, and we have to go back to work. I spent the last day of summer with a mixture of activities. This morning I went to the school and worked on some odds and ends. After that I had lunch with Jaime, Christy, Amelia, and Kendall. I was grateful that they let me tag along :) It was nice to talk with Amelia because she is also expecting a little boy and we have the same doctor, so we have a lot to talk about. Her little girl Kendall is absolutely a doll and she is hilarious! She has the best laugh. And Christy is just the sweetest, funniest person. I'm glad that I have had the chance to meet Jaime's friends. After lunch, I went to my mom's to watch some Grey's. We did take some time to visit my memaw since that is my mom's Thursday ritual after work. Then we tried to work my dad's tv in the living room. After 30 minutes of pushing every button on every remote, we gave up and went to the bedroom to watch the show. Luckily, David came in and rescued us. We watched three or so episdoes then I had to head home. I have completed my blogging duties and now I'm about to get in bed because as my dad likes to say, "Some people have to work for a living!"

We Are Family

This morning I could not sleep thinking about all that needed to be done in my room. I got completely unpacked and arranged by 11:00 am! WOW! Afterward I had been invited to eat lunch at my Memaw's with my girl cousins and my sister. There are four of us girl grand-daughters. My sister and my other two girl cousins were born within 9 months of one another, so they have always been super close. I am the youngest girl born 5 years later so growing up I was the odd ball. My cousins Tiffany and Kandi always wanted me around growing up. They both have brothers so they thought I was pretty neat. My sister Jami on the other hand was not fond of having little sister around. So normally I was kicked to the curb and forced to play with the boys who were more my age. Fun. When I turned 16 my sister moved out of the house and she began to miss me a little. When I was 18 she became pregnant and realized how important I was to her! LOL! After that, I oficially joined the girl club. I know they still look at me like their baby cousin/sister. I mean, they still call me "Little Mandy" for goodness sakes. (BTW my mom's family is the only one who is allowed to call me Mandy! I hate that name. My grandmother calls me "Manzell" which is a whole 'nother blog! LOL) Anyway, I digress. I love these "girl dinners" we have. It is so much fun to sit around the table and eat good home cooking and catch up on our lives. It's so special for me when my one of my cousins' kids comes and crawls in my lap just like my niece or nephew would do. Even when one of the kids comes to me and ask me to open a freeze pop or something it shows that they feel comfortable with me, and that they know I care about them. After we eat, we always sit in the living room and talk for hours while the kids play in the floor. The members of my family are all very talkative. My uncle who married into the family always jokes because he says he gets a headache when we are all together. At any given time there are at least three conversations going at once, and we all have the ability to be a part of all three simultaneously! We all have so much to say and no one wants to miss any converstaion. I am so grateful for my mom's family. Since my dad's mom passed away, I do not even see his family. We were just not close like my mom's family. The women of my mom's family are especially close. We just have a special bond. I am so proud to call them family.

Move over Dinos!

Well, my stuff is moved! I am now a resident of Room 4 at T-High. (Special thanks to Jaime and Brandon for helping my hubby move the heavy stuff) I am so relieved to have all of my belongings on the "cool hall." Now it's just a matter of cleaning, unpacking, and organizing which I can more than handle on my own. I'm sure I will be at the school all day tomorrow and Thursday fine tuning my area. I can breathe now! I am excited about my new hall and my fellow residents. There is a lot of youth and positivity that I hope is going to make a difference to our students. It's past time for the negative dinosaurs to be extinct!

Claire is Here!

Tonight we were able to welcome Claire (no middle name yet!) into our world. Claire is the baby girl of Melissa who is one of my very first friends that I made in kindergarden. Claire weighed 6 lbs and 8 oz, and she is just beautiful! It is so exciting when a new baby enters the world. Of course it makes me think about my own little man and his arrival. This is such an exciting time for me and my friends from school. We have so many babies on the way, and it is great that we all get to share the experience together.

Panic Attack!

I'm starting to get extremely nervous about moving into my new classroom this week. I haven't thought too much about it this summer because I knew the lady who currently resides in my new room would not move out until the very last minute. I was right. Last check was Saturday morning and the room was still completely full of her stuff. So unless she worked Saturday and today, she probably still has a lot of stuff in the room. I myself still have not packed. My husband and I took everything off the walls Saturday. I don't have a lot of things to be packed. Since I moved last year, I cleared out a lot of junk in that move. I am still dreading this process. It was honestly very stupid of me to move during the summer while I'm pregnant. I'm having to beg help from people, and I HATE doing that. I'm a very independent person. It annoys me not being able to lift my own boxes and such. Knowing that I can't to things myself just adds to my anxiety. My goal is to have everything moved and unpacked by Friday when everyone comes back to work. I do not want to spend my work/professional days unpacking. I have other things that need to be done. So wish me luck! I would give anything to be there now working, but my hubby isn't going for it tonight! Pray that I get everything done in time :)

Luciano's

Tonight I marked my 3rd new restaurant off my 101 list. I can see this item will be an easy one to accomplish! We ate at Luciano's in Athens with Lora, Willie, and Baylee. The restaurant was very fancy-schmancy which we care nothing about, but the food was very good. As a matter of fact, I left my doggy box in the car...I need to get that out ASAP! haha My favorite part of Luciano's was the entertainment. I was a little weirded out at first by the man standing almost in the doorway singing to the diners. As Lora said, he seemed to be "making love" to his microphone! But as we dined I appreciated the songs he sang. My favorite was "The Way You Look Tonight." It is one of my all-time favorite songs, and this man sang it very well. The song reminds me of weddings and it's extremely romantic. I feel like a restaurant critic writing this blog. So I guess I'll end by saying that I give Luciano's in Athens 3.5 stars!

Freedom Writers

While my hubby is away golfing this afternoon, I started flipping through the channels and decided to stop and watch a movie that I have wanted to watch for a while now. I read the book Freedom Writers' Diary last year at the beach, and I loved it. It was very inspiring and made me want to go back to school and change my students' lives. I have struggled with the motivation to go back to work this year, so I thought the movie might provide some inspiration. Did it ever! I can't count the number of times I cried throughout the movie. I know my students do not live in the projects nor do they have to carry a gun around with them, but many of them do have troubled home lives. At one point during the movie, one of the students describes what happened to him over the summer. He states that his family was evicted from their home. He was embarassed to return to school because he was wearing old clothes from last year and the same haircut. This absolutely broke my heart. My students will be returning to school on August 6th, and I couldn't help but wonder how many of them would return to school wearing the same clothes I saw them in the year before. How many of them are embarassed to walk through the door on the first day because they have nothing new to put on. How many of their parents lost their jobs over the summer? How many of their parents got divorced? How many of them were kicked out of their homes? As I watched the movie, I felt so ashamed of myself. I have dreaded going back to work without even the slightest thought of how lucky I am to have a job, or how lucky I am to have a good home. I am ashamed that I have not thought about the fact that since my husband and I have great jobs that my son will probably never have to go back to school on the first day wearing last years clothes or even shoes for that matter. While back to school clothing is superficial, it is extremely important to most teenagers. It makes me sad to think that some of my students may be dreading coming back to school for that very reason. I am oficially motivated to get back to my students. One of the things on my list is to do something nice for a student every day this school year. My goal is to make the students feel comfortable and safe in my classroom. It may be all they have, and I do not ever want to lose sight of that. I did get to mark one of the non-theatre movies off my list today, but in reality, I think I accomplished so much more.

Webkinz World

I have a new hobby that is somewhat embarassing to share. My niece and nephew are into Webkinz. For those who do not know, Webkinz are these little stuffed animals that also act as virtual pets online. The owner has to feed and take care of them. It doesn't come cheap! The owner has to play games and take on jobs to earn money to buy food, clothing, room decorations, etc. Certain surprises are free on a daily basis and the owner can earn a reward for logging on every day. My nephew has given me his username and password, and I can honestly say I am obsessed with this toy! One night last week I stayed up until midnight trying to earn 1500 points to buy a swimming pool for his animals. I recently found out that the free prizes can be sold back to the W Store to buy other things. These pets are a great learning tool for kids. They have to be responsible and take care of the pet AND they have to work to feed it. If they want their pet to have a cute, fashionable room, they have to work to earn extra money for luxuries. Well, I guess it's a good tool for kids who do not have 27 year old loser aunts to go on there and do all the work for them!

Bunco No-Mo!

When I was 16 this lady that went to church with me asked me to baby sit her daughter for the summer. She was about to turn three at that time. I spent the entire summer with her that year and I continued to sit for her and her sister when their parents needed a date night and on other occasions. A couple of years ago, the mother asked me to fill in as a substitute in her Bunco group. I had no clue what Bunco was, but she said it was very easy to play, and I would catch on quickly. So I went and had a good time. It was fun and easy to play. I was the youngest in the crowd by at least 10 years, but they are a fun group of women so it was ok! The next month I got asked again to sub, and the next, and the next until I became a "regular." I played regularly for a while and then I missed a couple of months because of school or work issues. Well, over the past year nobody was calling me to play Bunco! My husband jokingly asked me if I got kicked out. I said no, but I secretly wondered! I wasn't upset about it. I just thought they had found someone else to play who was better connected with their circle. Then last week I recieved the call saying they were playing Monday (tonight). When I arrived and we began chatting, I found out that nobody had been playing Bunco because of hectic schedules and such. We had our dinner as usual, sat around and talked and decided nobody wanted to play Bunco tonight either! We drew for the prizes and the money and everyone went on their way. It was decided that the next month we would meet at one ladies house, who happens to have a movie theatre in her basement, and watch Sex and the City Season 1! Looks like Bunco is out and Sex is in!

Melissa's Baby Shower

Today we had a small "friend" baby shower for my since-kindergarden-friend, Melissa. Melissa is about to have her third child. She is going to be induced next Monday if she doesn't go into labor before then. Debra made Melissa a beautiful diaper cake. I think the best gift was the outfit Casey made for the baby. We all decided we wanted a handmade, one-of-a-kind "Casey Outfit" for our own children!! I was so impressed with my friends and their talents! I am so blessed to have these girls in my life. I can't wait to meet Melissa's little girl!!

Opposites Attract

Not much to blog about today. I did want to take time to mention that today was my parent's 33rd anniversary. In today's society, this is such a huge accomplishment. My mom and dad have the funniest relationship. They are two very different people. They love to pick at and fuss with each other. If someone didn't know them, they may think they didn't get along one bit. After all, my dad calls my mom "Beatrice" when she is annoying him! He has done that for as long as I can remember. I think it's amazing that they are still together after all these years despite all of their differences. They are a great example for David and me and the success we strive for in our own marriage.

Mama Mia!

Tonight Lora, Melissa, and I went to see Mama Mia. I have been waiting to see this movie since I saw the first preview in May. I saw the play in London in 2004 and absolutely fell in love with it. I cried at the end of the play because I was so moved by the energy of the actors...I honestly could have watched it all night! I was a little worried that the film would not live up to a live Leicester Square (London's equivalent to New York's Broadway) performance. Luckily, I had nothing to worry about. I loved the film. It was hilarious and the music and dance numbers were amazing. The only disappointment of the night was that we did not get to watch the movie at Bridge Street. The shows there were sold out (and there was no VIP for this movie) so we had to go to the plain ole Carmike. I will definitely buy the DVD when it comes out AND I'm going to download the soundtrack off itunes tomorrow. I might even go back to the theatre and see it again...

It's the Little Things That Add Up

Yes, I haven't blogged in a few days (ahem, Jaime. LOL), but honestly I haven't done much of anything except sit around my house since Scrapstravaganza on Monday. Today, a lot of things happened even while I was being lazy. My niece spent the night with us last night because my sister and the rest of her family were leaving early this morning to take my nephew to the Dizzy Dean World Series in Eastridge, TN. She took over the laptop checking her ever-important Yahoo email and playing with her Webkinz. She was so tired from the long day she had, so we went to bed fairly early. We awoke to a phone call that the carpet installers were on their way to install Camden's carpet!! YAY! So while the carpenters worked, we watched Nancy Drew. I didn't really want to watch it, but it turned out to be a very cute movie, AND I can mark one of my non-theatre movies off my list. Also, Charter came out today and got our alarm system working again. WHEW. Besides those few events, life has been lame. Hopefully tomorrow night I will have a fabulous blog. My friends Lora, Melissa, and I are going to see Mama Mia. I have been stoked about this movie since May when I heard it was coming out. I saw the play in London and fell in love with it. I hope the movie doesn't disappoint!

No Creative Title Today

I had such an eventful day today! I started the day off by getting my toe nails painted. They looked very bad, and I couldn't stand it any longer! Then I had lunch with Brandi at Ruby Tuesday. We didn't have a lot of time together but it was nice to get to chat and spend time with her even if it was for a short time. After lunch, Lora, Casey and I went to Debra's house to take her some post-surgery treats. We spent some time discussing our upcoming reunion, Melissa's shower, and of course we managed to get our gossip fix in! I love talking to these girls. We have such a history together, and we never get tired of talking about things in our past. I did get embarassed when someone brought up a time when I was talking bad about Debra. She heard what I was saying, and we had quite a tiff over that! I get so upset when I think about some of the stupid things I did and said in high school. Next, it was off to Killen to pick out carpet for Camden's room. We quickly selected a dark brown shag carpet. Then we stopped by a NEW restraunt to mark off my list, Stanfields in Rogersville, AL. The food was very good! I had grilled shrimp and baby back ribs with onion rings. We decided that we would definitely go back to eat there again. After dinner, we attended the first of several marriage workshops that our chruch is sponsoring for young married couples. Needless to say, David was not thrilled with the idea, but I knew that the church was paying this counselor to come and present the workshops and that we should attend. After all, how can focusing on bettering your marriage ever turn out to be a bad thing? The presenter was not the best speaker that I have ever heard, but the information he put out there was very useful. He discussed love languages, and we each had to take a short quiz to determine what our love language was. To my surprise, David and I had the same language! Anyone who knows me will not be shocked to know that my language was words of affirmation which means that hearing positive and encouraging words makes me feel loved. This was no surprise to me because I have very low self-esteem, and I am constantly seeking approval from others. It did surprise me that David had the same result. I honestly did not realize that he had such a need to hear statements of approval or appreciation from me. I always feel that he is so confident in who he is. I think it's great that I know this now Since I did not know that he had this need, I seriously doubt that I was meeting it. Now I can make the extra effort to make sure that I verbally express my appreciation for him. I know I am very lucky to have a husband like him. Sure, he's a pocketbook Nazi, but deep down I know that is for our own good. David is very protective. He's a hard worker, and I know he will be a good father to our little boy. So many people are not that lucky. I need to work harder to let him know how much I appreciate who he is and what he does.

101 in 1001 Disclaimer

I did make some changes to my 101 list. I felt that some of my items were either not specific enough or were unable to be documented so I changed them accordingly. I hope this is not cheating! If it is, I apologize, but it's my list, so I guess you can't do anything about it. LOL!

Scrapstravaganza!

Today we participated in the long awaited Scrapstravaganza. Check #66 off my list!!! This was a scrapbook shopping road trip invented by Jaime, Melanie, and me. Our scheduled destinations included Michaels in Chattanooga, Hobby Lobby in Chattanooga, The Crop Shop in Chattanooga, Scrapbook Heaven in Chattanooga, Three Ladies and a Scrapbook in Rainsville, AL, a scrapbook store in Scottsboro, AL that I can't remember the name of, and Wise Scrapper in Gurley, AL. Each destination was it's own special adventure, and we were able to make it to each with the help of my GPS "Betty" (see above photo). First of all, the employees at Michaels got snappy with the original Snappy when she asked about sales papers. I did find a good deal on some tea lights, and I bought some embroidery floss to work on my stitching. Hobby Lobby had much more to offer. They had a good sale on stickers, adhesives, and papers. I think this is what triggered my interest in paper throughout the remainder of the trip. My only complaint was little Evan who terrorized his mother while we tried to check out. Then he proceeded to run away from her to the back of the store. They left with him in her arms kicking and screaming. I wanted to suggest a nice butt whipping and one of those leashes, but I stayed out of it. Our next stop, The Crop Shop was closed when we arrived. We looked in the window and thought it looked like a right nice shop...but boy did we find out differently as the day went on. Next stop-Scrapbook Heaven. This was by far my favorite shop of them all. They had the best selection of papers. We also found some stitch patterns which made me very happy! This is where we began to realize that scrapbook store owners are very nosy, er...talkative, and very informed on their competition. After a drive through lunch at McDonalds, we headed back to Alabama. First stop, Three Ladies and a Scrapbook. This was a great store! Huge selection. Sale bins. Friendly worker who told me I didn't look big at all to be due in October...she won my heart! She also informed us of the bad business practices of the woman at The Crop Shop in Chattanooga. I think we all spent the most money at this store. We found lots of papers and an adhesive pen that I can't wait to try. Then we headed to Scottsboro where the supreme weirdness began. First of all, this little girl insisted on staring at us as we browsed the sale tables. I thought if I kept looking at her she would feel intimidated and stop, but I had no such luck. I think she may have been trying to figure out if I was pregnant or not. The owner of the store was quite boisterous. She insisted on talking to us while we tried to shop, which I am not a fan of. She also proceeded to air the dirty laundry of the Crop Shop owner in Chatt-town. What is it with these scrap ladies?? I did find some cute papers at this store too. As we pulled out of the parking lot, the little girl was still staring at us. I called her an ugly name to my friends, and we pulled off. Now we were on to Gurley to the Wise Scrapper. Unfortunately, it was closed so we headed home. We ended the day with some good Chinese and bad sweet tea at Melanie's apartment. I was so tired and it took James and I far too long to get home because of the horrible Huntsville traffic but today was such a great day. It was nice spending time with my besties, experiencing new things, and adding new inside jokes to our ever expanding collection!

Catching up on Grey's Anatomy

miranda bailey

I'm a fairly new Grey's Anatomy fan, so I had to borrow Seasons 1-3 from my Melanie so that I could get caught up on all the drama I had missed before I started watching. My mother is also in the same situation so we decided to get caught up together. We completed Season 1, and so many things were explained already. We made it to Episode 2 of Season 2 today, and I just wanted to comment on a couple of my favorite characters. I love all the characters on the show, but knowing the history of Dr. Bailey (AKA The Nazi) and George O'Malley made them soar into the position of my favorite characters. First of all, Bailey is just hilarious! I love the fact that she tells it like it is. I wish I was more like that, but not to the extent that people hated me for it. I know someone in real life who alienates people with her honesty to the extent that they would completely inconvenience themselves just to get away from her. I guess I would like to be somewhere in the middle. I definitely do not speak my honest thoughts enough. Now my George is just so precious. He is a hoot! I love the fact that he is a behind the scenes hero. He definitely does not get enough credit for the doctor that he is. But he takes it in stride and perseveres to make himself even better. If I had a third place, it would be Alex. He is so vain, but doesn't he have every reason to be?! Personally, I would rather have him than Dreamy or Steamy! Alex can be a real jerk. And just when you start to hate him, he shows his loving side and you melt! I can't believe that I went all these seasons without watching this show, but I love that I have so many "new" episodes to watch now at my convenience. I also love spending that time with my mom. We laugh and cry at all the same parts and it is just good, quality time together. It's our special time..just me and her.

Acting our Shoe Size

Two blogs today! Feel special. The Nashville trip contained so much and I wanted to dedicate a special blog to two of my newest besties and our Friday and Saturday events. Friday night, after our Nashville trip, my THS friends Jaime (aka James or Moosey) and Melanie (aka Snappy or Smelly) came over to spend the night and get ready for our yard sale Saturday morning. We spent Friday night making signs, putting them out, and unloading vehicles for the next morning. We also had to make a fast food dinner run around 11:00. As teachers, it's always great to see a former student putting lettuce on your taco's at The Bell. (Heavy sarcasm implied) I had to go to bed around 1:00 a.m. Between the pregnancy and my road trip the previous couple of days, I was completely give out. I didn't mark this slumber party off my list because I want to host a real one where we actually have time to watch movies, scrapbook, etc. We got up around 4:00 the next morning to set up shop. We have one picture to document the event, but it is on Jaime's camera and it has not been released for publishing at this moment. We had a good day. It was disgustingly hot outside, but we made some extra scrapbook money to fund our road trip on Monday, and that was the objective of the entire sale. Melanie blogged about our scrapbook and sleepover shenanigans and the idea that people may think we act immature for our age. The bottom line is that we have fun. We are not out drinking, cheating on our significant others, or getting into any kind of trouble so how can it be a bad thing? I am the happiest I have been in my entire life, and I contribute a lot of that to these two skanks. I would never have thought that I could have so much fun with coworkers! We have become the best of friends during my tenure as a teacher. Between work drama and our masters work, we have found so much common ground and so many things to laugh about. I know that our relationship is going to get much stronger in the years to come. I am so proud to call James and Smelly my besties even if they do encourage me to act my shoe size and not my age!

Checking Things Off!

I've been slacking on the blogs over the past few days, but I have lots of things to tell! Thursday afternoon we left for Nashville with Willie and Lora for a short trip. When we arrived, we browsed around Opry Mills for a few hours. I bought a new Guess purse which I love! I'm not sure if Guess is considered "designer" or not. One of my 102 things was to buy a designer purse, but I had Coach, Fendi or something similar to their callibur in mind, so for now I'm not marking it off. After Opry Mills, we had dinner at Joe's Crab Shack. This was my first time at this place. I really liked the atmosphere and the food was fabulous! I had a bucket of snow crab legs, and I showed them absolutely no mercy! Our service was pretty pathetic, but we still had a great time! After Joe's, we rode on a horse and buggy which was one of my 102 items. It was very neat but I was a little scared of the horse!! Our driver took a souvenier photo of us beside the horse and as soon as I walked by him, he turned his head and snuffed air at me! His name was Pete, and we really enjoyed the ride. The next day, we went to the Opryland Hotel to walk around and view the Cascades and the Delta Conservatories. This was Willie and Lora's first time in the hotel. David and I have been many times. We were engaged there, and we tried to find the exact spot of our engagement, so we could have our special kiss and mark that off the list as well. Sadly, neither of us could find the spot! I was so tired we finally resolved to find it in the next 900ish days. We took some pictures around the hotel and of course, Lora and I had to bust out our model status and drag the guys down with us in the process. We had a great trip! It was nice to get away for the night without having to take a long car ride. Lora and I always have the best time together. On the car rides we listened to a lot of old school music and sang along with the songs we loved in high school. Lora is my closest friend, by far. We have been besties since 6th grade, and we have always been able to tell each other everything. We will still talk on the phone for hours at a time, and she is the only friend that I do that with. She's the absolute best!!

Oh The Joys of Little Boys!

On Wednesdays during the summer I have the privilige of keeping my niece Alana (9) and my nephew Garrett (turns 7 in a couple of weeks). Alana is so easy to keep! She is quiet, polite, friendly, and easy to please. Garrett is good too. He has a great sense of humor, and he looks just like I did at his age with the exception of hair length, but he is much more active than Alana. Today I was truly able to experience first-hand what it may be like to have a little boy in the house. Garrett was taking a bath, and as normal I ran his water, got him set up, and left him alone to play and turn on the jets to have his personal spa. He loves that! I checked on him a couple of times and made sure his hair was washed and his body clean then I allowed him to play some more. All of a sudden, I heard a loud crash and sure enough Garrett had attempted to climb out of the jacuzzi tub that is surrounded by ceramic tile and becomes as slippery as an eel when wet. There was not a lot of blood, but he did have a huge gash in his chin. I thought I was going to pass out...it was so deep that I could see fat and tissue in there! Now, 25 weeks into my pregnancy, my hormones are in full force, and I cry at the drop of a hat these days. Amazingly enough my head took over my heart, and reasoned that if I cried, he would cry too, so I shouldn't do that! I managed to keep it together to call his mom and ask if we should go to the ER or to his doctor. Garrett did have to get four stitches. He did not cry until he realized he had to get a shot to numb his chin to get the stitches. He got a new Power Ranger from K-Mart and was good to go! By the time he made it back to my house, he was running around torturing Alana. Little boys!! They HAVE to be made of snips, snails and puppy dog tails!
Of course this whole event made me think about my future with my own little boy. I know that he will have his share of cuts, bruises, and possibly broken bones in his lifetime. I am grateful that I had this incident because I realized that as upset as I may be, adrenaline and instinct override emotion and allow us to remain calm and do the right thing during disasters.

Blogging...cheaper than therapy!

So everyone else is doing it, and I felt a little left out so I took the plunge! I am now officially a blogger. (Please hold your applause) It seems the proper blog protocol is for one to write about him/herself in the initial blog entry. I will follow the rules.
The most important thing in my life right now is my expanding family. I married my high school sweetheart David in March of 2001. We were very young and stupid, but thanks to our responsibility, maturity, and the hand of God we have managed to build an amazing life together. We spent the first few years of marriage together engaging in some major adult purchases! In the first six months we bought a new vehicle and a new (to us!) home. David completely remodeled the house, and we sold it for a fun little profit. We also bought a few vehicles in those first few years. The major life lesson that I took away from those experiences was that I hate buying cars and houses and now avoid it at all costs! Anything that involves banks is not for me!
In the summer of 2004 he began constructing and contracting our home which was completed in the summer of 2005. I am so proud of the work he put into our home. By this time we were feeling very settled and a little overwhelmed by the things that took place in those first four years. But we made it that far! Four years is a lifetime by Hollywood standards! Little did we know that the next two years would be more trying than any car-buying or house-building experince.
David became a carpenter at TVA in the Spring of 2002. He quickly advanced into foreman status because of his skills in his trade. In the Fall of 2005 I was hired to teach high school English at Tanner High School. I was thrilled to get this job because there are so many teachers trying to find jobs these days. In October 2005 I was just trying to survive my first year of teaching when I found out that I was pregnant! SURPRISE! It was great. Everything seemed to be happening the way I wanted it to. I finished school, got married, got a job, and now I was getting a baby. That was how I always thought my life would be. Unfortunately, that December we found out that our baby did not survive. There is no blog long enough or words effective enought to put in writing the misery I felt. Most of all I just could not believe what had happened. I was so scared that I did something wrong to make my baby go away. Everyone always says that babies are a gift from God, so I thought maybe I didn't deserve that gift. It wasn't until recently that I realized that none of those things were true. God gives life...He doesn't take it away. However, even though we did not plan the first baby, we realized how ready we were to have a baby in our family. Now we had a mission! We spent the next year healing and preparing ourselves to bring a baby into this world. After the physical healing was over, there was a time period when I was still emotionally unprepared to deal with the possibility of another miscarriage. But the strength came and in November 2006, we found out that we were pregnant again! After one short week of knowing, I miscarried again. The strange thing is that it was almost easier the second time. It ended more quickly, and in the back of my mind I expected it to happen anyway. But old pains came back and new fears of never being able to carry my own child began to seep into my mind. So we began the process of physical and mental healing, AGAIN! We started trying AGAIN! Anyone who has had trouble conceiving a child can vouch for the fact that it is a mental mind game, and mentally, I was spent. In the loss of my first two babies, I lost hope, confidence, and ashamedly, faith. I was mentally defeated and needed help. Some months I didn't even want to try. Some months I was ready to try again. Some months I was too scared to try and just wanted to adopt and avoid another failed pregnancy. Honestly, I needed some help! Also during this time I found myself becoming extremely introverted and depressed. I would almost feel guilty if I was happy. I mourned for my losses in a way that was completely unhealthy. I wallowed in self-pity. I tried to give my feelings to God and put my burden in his hands, but I was too impatient, and I would give up on Him. Then, when other things didn't work, I would go back to Him. It was a horrible cycle that I am still ashamed of. In October 2007, David and I decided to see a fertility specialist. Sounds strange because I am obviously fertile! I've been pregnant more times than most women ever are in their whole life! But we knew there was something that was keeping the pregnancies from being successful, and we had to find out what it was. So David was tested and much to his relief, he had great swimmers! WHEW! I know that was his biggest fear. Good news for him but bad for me because now I knew it was all me. What was I going to do if I couldn't give my husband a child of his own? Luckily, my problems were very minor. I was put on some medication to eliminate the numerous tiny cysts on my ovaries, a shot to schedule ovulation, and some hormone trickery and BAM! Three months and I'm pregnant again! I decided that the last two times I had not approached this pregancy thing correctly. I asked everyone I knew to pray for me, David, and the baby. I had so many well-wishers that I was overwhelmed with the amount of people who would tell me that they were praying for us. Now, I was closely monitored through the first trimester by one of the most brilliant doctors I have ever been in contact. But who are we kidding?! It was the prayers! Our God just works that way! Everyone always told me that these things all happened for a reason. Maybe they did and maybe they didn't. I do know that, God willing, my little boy will be here in about three months. I do know that I learned a lot about the kind of mom I want to be from this process. I do know that Camden will not replace the children that I lost. I do know that my babies are with God, and that they are more blessed to be with Him in Heaven than on earth with me. I know that God will see me through anything if I will be patient and let Him have His way. So if there is a reason, I believe it is so that I could KNOW all of these things. I found out about my first pregnancy in October 2005 and my baby boy should make his entrance into this world in October 2008. Isn't it amazing how God shows out sometimes!!
So WOW! My first blog was heavy! It's amazing how things started to flow once I began typing. Blogging...cheaper than therapy!
